Our bodies are primarily made up of water, and one of the best ways to help
keep your body fit and disease-free is to drink sufficient amounts of water
every day. I can't tell you how many people I have talked to who confuse
water consumption with fluid/beverage consumption - Colas, coffee, teas and
alcoholic beverages do not count.
The most important reasons why we need to drink
plenty of pure, fresh water every day are...

To help our body to flush out toxins and metabolic
waste.
Without enough water to flush out toxins and waste, our bodies become
constipated, toxic and prone to illness.

Dehydration
When cells become dehydrated, the membrane becomes convoluted, causing
substances that must traverse the membrane of the cell to be met with
greater resistance.
Life giving oxygen and nutrients are not as easily assimilated, and
metabolic waste cannot leave as easily.
When our cells are not functioning optimally, our bodies can develop
malnutrition and become disease prone.

Chronic Dehydration
Research has found that chronic dehydration could be the root cause of
many diseases that are associated with aging (e.g. arthritis, G.I.
disorders, and senile dementia).
To make the matter worse, as our bodies adjust to being dehydrated, or as
we get older, our "thirst signals" decline.
So, not drinking water until you are thirsty can actually contribute to
your body adjusting to dehydration.

Other Beverages
The sugar and caffeine in coffees, teas and colas, and alcoholic beverages
actually dehydrate you!
In fact, you will need to drink at least the same amount of water just to
break even!
Alcohol and high sugar content exerts great osmotic pressure, and water is
sent to the stomach (and lost from the blood) to make the substance dilute
enough to leave the stomach.
Ever notice how some beverages make you pee a lot?

Exhale into your hand
Feel the moisture? When we exhale, the breath is 100% humid at all
times, regardless of your environment.
We need plenty of water to keep our lungs and nasal passages moist at all
times.

We need to replace the fluids we lose through
perspiration
Even on dry and/or cool days when we might not notice how much we
sweat.

Set a goal for how much water you will drink per day.
The recommended amount is 8, 10 oz. glasses per day. Remember to
drink this water even if you are not thirsty.

It is very easy to lose track of how many glasses of
water you drink per day.
I buy those individual (32 oz) bottles of water in the store, then fill
them up from my water filter each day. When I have finished my 3 bottles I
know I have reached my daily goal.

Have a fresh bottle of water handy at all times!

Don't count on fruit juice as part of your daily
water intake.
Fruit juices are high in natural sugars, and can cause dehydration just
like sodas!
This does not mean you can't have juice, it just means don't count it as
part of your daily water intake.

Don't like water?
If you are one of those people who don't like the taste of plain water,
try getting creative. You can squeeze fresh lemon or lime into your water
bottle, or my favorite is to use
pure,
therapeutic grade essential oils.
I use oils such as cinnamon in the winter, and spearmint or peppermint in
the summer.
Other times I might add ginger, lemon, orange or tangerine.
*These oils are very
concentrated. ONE drop per gallon.

Eat plenty of fresh, uncooked fruits and vegetables.

If you do strenuous exercise, always add extra water
to your daily amount.
Also be sure to add extra raw salt and minerals to maintain your
electrolyte balance.

There are many signs of dehydration, but the easiest way
to gage for healthy hydration is to check your urine for what is called the
3 C's
We also need to be aware that anything, taken to
extreme can be harmful.
