In order to develop these successful qualities, I will share with you in these pages how to begin to understand yourself and your PREDOMINATE MOTIVATIONAL TALENT (PMT). When you understand your PMT, and are clear on what motivates you, you will be better able to overcome obstacles by refocusing on your motivating strengths. Motivation is a matter of keeping ourselves excited and interested in what we are doing, which gives us physical and mental energy to continue to motivate ourselves. Motivation, excitement, and high energy feed on themselves and create more, and more, provided we make the effort to nurture our motivation. We cannot fake motivation, it must come from within, and it takes an effort to maintain motivation. However, the rewards are so numerous that it is well worth every ounce of effort. Too many times repetition and familiarity can cause us to become bored with even the most exciting aspects of our lives. A good example of this is to watch a couple when they are newly in love. Everything the other person does or says is very important to their partner. As time goes on the sparkle wears away, everyday life worries and struggles begin to take precedent, and they begin to take each other for granted. This exact same thing happens to most people in their work. They go into a "robot routine" where they could do their jobs while asleep. This job then feels comfortable, safe, and secure...until the company begins to demand more, has serious financial problems, and/or begins to lay-off their employees. In order to become successful, and to enjoy your work, you need to find what motivates you. In other words, what specific Talents do you have that excite you to action? So, our first step is to IDENTIFY your predominant motivating Talent (steps are below). All people are motivated by more than one talent. However, when the going get rough or routine, a predominate talent will stand out. Example Mary was a valued sales person. She was excellent with her clients, was great at trouble shooting, was organized, consistently met her sales goals, and was making great money. During a time when finances were tight, the company decided to cut quality but not price. Mary immediately quit. Why? Her Predominant Motivating Talent was Altruistic. She needed to feel she was giving her customers the highest quality product available. The below information will help you to determine which talent is your predominate motivating talent. Once this is identified, the next chapters will help you to develop your Motivating Talent.

Predominant

Nothing gets you going like making money and
pulling together deals. |
Challenging Talents
When times are tough, it is very hard for you to
stay motivated. |
Suggestions
Since money is the motivating Talent, motivating
pep talks are generally little more than band aids for you.
What you need is to "prime the pump," look at your situation from
another perspective, challenge yourself, review past successes. Ask
yourself what you were doing differently when things were flowing.
People who are money motivated are very "I"
oriented.
While personal attention/recognition feeds your ego, it very seldom is
enough.
You need to learn to take care of your own "I", ego needs. Make your
job a game. Set realistic goals, then try to exceed your goals.
See the chapter on
Meditations for suggestions on how to meet your inner needs.
If you are in
MLM, challenge yourself to help so many people per day to find
health and success. Focus on the fact that the more people you help to
become successful, the more successful you will become.
You will no longer be so "I" focused, and will find that making others
successful, in order to become successful yourself, has made you a more
interesting and caring person.
Positive Talents
You want power. |
Challenging Talents
You can be egotistical, unethical, and hard to
handle. |
Suggestions
Learn to appreciate your finer qualities, then
learn to appreciate them in others. |
Positive Talents
While you are not consistently the top producer
of your company, you usually end your month near your goals, and are a
steady worker. |
Challenging Talents
You will do most anything for personal freedom,
to be your own person, to work you own hours without much supervision,
and to "Reap what you sow." |
Suggestions
Most people feel they have achieved true freedom
when they own their own business. |
Positive Talents
You NEED to believe that what you are offering
to others has value. |
Challenging Talents
Because you give so much of yourself, you need
to be motivated by reinforcement and recognition for all the
special attention you give to you clients. |
Suggestions
In order to break your dependence on outer
approval, learn to go within to find self support and acceptance.
Positive Talents
You have everything written down and organized.
Challenging Talents
It is important that you identify and
acknowledge your NEED for order. |
Suggestions
You tend to be so structured that you lack
flexibility. |
1. Identify
your PMT t hen identify and expand on the positive side of your unique
talent. |
2. How does your PMT help you to understand your role: |
What new understanding do you have of how, why and on what you have been dependent for your motivation? What changes will you make? |
What new insights do you have on your relationship with your customers, and how do you believe you have been meeting their needs. What will you change? |
What role have you been playing? Have you been power/money playing, dragging your feet while you re-organize, or playing a martyr? How has that worked for you? Do you think that role will still work for you? Why or why not? What changes will you make? |
3. When you meet obstacles, how can focusing on your PMT help to keep you motivated? |
No one of these personality types are more valuable
than the other.
It takes all types of people to make the world go around. No matter what
level of financial success the personality type has achieved, each can
have peace and inner freedom, or misery and bondage.
Some of the most financially successful people I have
known have also been the most personally unsuccessful and fearful, always
afraid that their riches or happiness will be taken away.
On the other hand, I have met people who were financially struggling, yet
would not hesitate to give what they could if you were in need.
Which of the two do you suppose was the happiest?
I am in no way suggesting that financial success leads to personal unhappiness. I have met many, many people whose lives where in ruins because of financial burdens.
What I am saying is that through investing time in
personal development, you can have it all.
Spend time with the entire chapter on
Success and
Freedom, as well as
Wisdom of Ancient Healing, particularly with the chapter on
Meditations .
Make a commitment to your personal development and happiness. You will soon find that:
You "Reap what you sow"
That you have the power to make positive changes
And that inner success attracts outer success.
