Why You Need A
Mentor or Sponsor

In Collier's New Dictionary of the English Language, a mentor is defined as: A wise and faithful counselor; from Mentor, the friend and tutor of Ulysses.

In ancient times the people had many gods and goddesses, each with unique qualities that the people petitioned to for help. If they needed courage, they would go to the temple of a courageous, warrior type god, such as Zeus, to petition for help. If they needed help with love, they might have gone to the temple of Venus.

The power of these ancient people's actions was in identifying their own area of weakness. Once this weakness was identified, they chose a deity they believed had the qualities they were lacking. When worshiping the gods and goddesses who were attributed with their desired qualities, they awakened those same latent qualities that were within themselves. In other words, they were going to spiritual mentors.

This is why it is so important for everyone to a have mentor; they awaken the positive qualities that are sleeping within. They help us to awaken to the power, talents, and beauty that is contained within each and every one of us.

What role models, or mentors, do we have today? Who would be a qualified mentor? Unfortunately, our society does not operate on a formal mentor system, but with a little willingness, thought and creatively you can find a powerful mentor. It could be a co-worker, manager, friend, teacher, or author. Anyone who has mastered a talent you desire to learn. You can have a mentor for your career, and other for spiritual learning, and even another for personal relationships.
