This book is offered
to those millions of people who have a belief and/or interest in the subject
of exorcism, to help them understand that there is an alternative to the
fearful and life threatening form of exorcism most people are familiar
with.
EXORCISM! This word conjures up
images of demons screaming, priests sprinkling holy water, ungodly
obscenities, vomit, levitation, super-human strength, feelings of fear,
banishment, insanity, and death.
Is this what it is
really all about?
Is this the only
way?
I think not! There
is another way.
The "GENTLE Art
of Exorcism" is an alternative way of understanding and performing not
only exorcism, but the process also reveals a powerful and loving side of
self and our spiritual world.
This Gentle Art is
always a loving process of understanding, communication, non-judgment, and
the acknowledgment that all people and spirits have a reason for what they
do.
I believe that God
loves all his creatures, great and small, in body and out of body (in
spirit).
If I am to believe,
as I do, that there is a higher power (that I choose to call "God") that is
capable of all things, then that power is not threatened nor forever
unforgiving of anyone.
My concept of God is
that of a loving power patiently waiting for each and every form of life to
recognize that it has a divine spark, and to return home to the love and
acceptance of its origin.
For humans to judge
that these lost, possessing spirits belong in Hell is a form of playing God
that I, as a human, have no right to do.
On the other hand, I also believe
that we who still live on earth can be powerful "healers" for the lost
spirits.
I am always
grateful to participate in an exorcism. Its beauty is of giving to the lost
and angry spirit the same love and understanding my client receives.
It is a wonderful
gift to see all the parties involved have the opportunity to communicate and
understand their reason for being together and doing what they do.
The Gentle Art
exposes a foundation of fear, and a resulting destructive need to protect
self. When these false beliefs of fear, hopelessness, and a feeling of
being unforgivable are exposed through communication, the false beliefs and
fears are dispelled.
When the questions
are answered, forgiveness is felt, and a deep understanding of the reason
for the possession is understood, the possessing spirit is allowed to move
on to a better existence in the light of love.
In most cases, the
physical and emotional difficulties of the possessed (human) are alleviated,
and they learn a great deal about themselves, their motivations, their own
fears and false beliefs, and are free to live a more complete life.
It is also my hope,
that in understanding the principles involved in this Gentle Art, there will
come a deep understanding that hatred, prejudice, jealousy and
non-forgiveness stem from one source, FEAR.
Fear, and only fear,
is the "root of all evil." If just one person is able to understand and
conquer this fear through the offering of this work, this world will be a
better place to live. Love is contagious!
There has been a
belief in spirits and of some form of exorcism since the beginning of time.
Throughout the ages, there is no other subject more thoroughly explored and
authenticated than that of spirit, spirit life, and a life hereafter.
The historian, Fisk,
stated, " Among all races of men, as far as now can be determined, ancient
worship (communication with spirit) was the earliest form of worship,
prevailing in Africa, Asia, China, Japan, The Aryans of Europe and the
American Indian tribes."
Philosophers such as
Confucius, Maximus of Tyre, Cicero, Socrates, Horace, Virgil, Plutarch,
Plato, Aristotle, Josephus, St. Anthony, Sir Oliver Lodge, Rev. Newton, Sir
Arthur Conan Doyle and Alfred Wallace are just a few among the most well
known explorers of this subject.
Confucius stated,
"Bemoan not the departed with excessive grief. The dead are devoted and
faithful friends: they are ever associated with us."
Cicero wrote, "Is not heaven
filled with the human? Those very gods themselves had their origin here
below and ascended hence from heaven."
One reference in the
Bible to the different types of spirits is in 1 John 4:1, "Beloved, believe
not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God."
I believe what this
is saying is, "Talk to them! Do not be fooled!" Just because a person is
in spirit does not mean that individual is of the light and love of God.
Many get lost along the way and roam earth.
Many spirits are
unaware they have died; they become lost, confused and frightened.
In some cases they
had no belief in an afterlife and are baffled, unsure what to do, so they
cling to the earth realms.
Sometimes, there is
hatred and a feeling of needing to extract revenge that keeps them earth
bound.
In still others,
their love for the ones left behind is so great they will not allow
themselves to move on.
In Matt. 6:21 it
states, "Where your treasure is, there will be your heart also." If
departed ones have unfinished business on earth, be it love or revenge, they
may stay.
Unless a spirit has
gone into the light it still possesses the same hatreds, weaknesses and
human qualities it had before death.
To the best of my
knowledge, there are no living human beings who have never felt fear, anger,
hatred or some form of negative emotion. Therefore, these spirits are on
the same emotional and spiritual level as humans and, just like humans, some
are nicer than others.
It has been my
experience that approximately 98% of the possessions are just lost souls,
and have nothing to do with demonic beings. Even the "demonic" beings I
have encountered are lost and have been lied to.
The Gentle Art
allows them to see the light and make a decision to end their suffering.
The only reference
I found in the Bible to a gentle form of exorcism was in 1 Samuel 16:23,
"David took a harp, and played with his hand, so Saul was refreshed and was
well. The evil spirit had departed from him." Perhaps the music comforted
the spirit enough to help it move on.
